Prof. Bohdan Kaskiv

Myroslav Skoryk (1938-2020) one of the most famous and titled composers of Ukraine. He has created true masterpieces in every of the existing musical genres from opera or instrumental concerto to film music or popular songs. His musical heritage is considered a significant part of Ukrainian culture.

“Caprice” for solo violin is one of those masterpieces.  This work is an integral part of the concert repertoire of a solo violinist. The musical work was created in 1978 and immediately gained wide popularity among concert violinists. It was Bohdan Kaskiv who made the very first edition of “Caprice” (bowing and fingering) the same year.

The piece combines a memorable melody with the charm of rhythmic figurations and folk intonations from Carpathians’ population. This expressive miniature, thanks to its extraordinary virtuosity, is a spectacular piece that represents the art of Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century.

In 2025, this musical work received an updated edition by Bohdan Kaskiv – a famous Ukrainian teacher, violinist, professor of the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy.
